This was all his idea

Nathan ran his first overnight relay at age 11 in Oregon and was hooked. Over the next 20 years he ran 17 more in 7 states. When he moved to Alaska, he couldn't believe there wasn't a relay in the State* and set out to establish one. He also works as a staff member for Cascade Lakes Relay each summer along with other relay events around the western US. He lives in Wasilla with his wife and two future runner daughters.

*TECHNICALLY, Klondike Road Relay starts in Alaska, but is mostly in Yukon and is a Canadian managed event. Technicalities aside, Nathan has great admiration for the KRR and it's longevity (40 years!)

Set the mold for his son's future.

Dave first became interested in running relays in high school. In addition to the traditional Track & Field Distance Medley and Four Mile Relay events, Dave and his Cross Country Team took on Two Man 10 Mile Relays and the classic 10 Man 24 Hour Relay. In college, Dave ran the Steeplechase, and then afterwards returned to relays, running the "Hood to Coast" four times in the 1980s and 90s, including the first year his son Nathan participated. His favorite relay is the multisport "Pole, Peddle, Paddle" in Bend, Oregon which he first completed solo in 1979.

Learning to Love it

There's perhaps no more important role than the spouse who lovingly supports building a big something from nothing. Megan has been involved from the beginning with Nathan's run-all-the-relays fetish->Crazy Idea->mapped course->developed race concept->first Alaska Relay event->NxNW formation. Her involvement in actual events has slowly grown, starting with a race-staffing "vacation" to San Diego and now with her being full-time for both summer overnight events. Now to get her to actually run in one....

No sleep for 48 hrs...let's run a 1/2 marathon!

Lydia started assisting with creative design for email and social media in the prosperous month of February 2020. World events notwithstanding, she's been an invaluable addition of design work, photography, extricating and organizing tasks from Nathan's web of work, and powering through relay nights like she has Monster flowing from an I.V.

Here to drink beer and set course....and he's all out of beer.

Larry has been setting relay courses for numerous relay events since 2014, with over 25 notches on his belt. While he's not a relay runner, he prides himself in setting a course where following the signs will always get you where you need to go, regardless of what's encountered. Unforeseen road construction? No problem. High-centered pickup truck? He'll handle it. With his well-notated course book, straw hat, and a tenacity befitting his Irish heritage, Larry has set the standard of CourseMaster.

Always a smile...
unless there's a moose.

Ryan joined us in 2019 via an internship from his sports business program at the U of Oregon. Never seen without a smile (unless the Ducks are losing maybe), Ryan is a tireless worker and quick on his feet, even when a large Alaskan animal is between him and the delineator he needs to retrieve.

Volun-told for life

Harmony had the great fortune of being a roommate to the Lukes when Alaska Relay launched and has worked every Alaska-located relay since our founding. An introvert, she greatly prefers the night shift duties where the extroverts are fewer, and the coffee floweth.
