High School Teams

High School Teams are an option to allow young people to participate at a significant discount. It does have special team requirements.


  • The team must be a full team of 12. All runners must be 19 or younger on race day and either currently in school or just graduated. Under age 14 allowed with race director approval.

  • The team MUST have an adult aged 21+ in each race vehicle for the duration of the race.

  • Any adult may accompany a team member on their leg, per all normal rules, but MAY NOT take over any leg or portion thereof in place of a team member.If an adult is accompanying a runner on their leg, another adult must still be present with the team vehicle.

  • The team Captain CAN BE a minor. It can also be a non-participating (running) adult.

  • School Sports Association Rules (drawn from Washington and Idaho’s respective associations).

    • The team may not be name associated with a school or its mascot, or otherwise represent the school.

    • The team may not be restricted to members of an official school team, nor may it be a pre-requisite for participation past or future on an official school team.

    • Coach Involvement. Washington says “coaches may conduct activities during the summer on their own, as individuals.” Idaho says “coaching restrictions are suspended during the summer” which ends July 31st.
